Confession: I don't know how to fishtail braid. However, I do know this trick...
My hairstylist, Carrie, showed my girl friends this trick at my wedding reception. Thankfully, they recorded a video of it and shared it with me, and now I'm sharing with you! (Thanks, ladies!) It's incredibly easy to do. Let's roll!
Gather your hair to one side. Then you'll want to take your forefinger and stick it through the middle of your hair, above the hand that's gathering your hair (slide 1). You want to do this quite high up in your gathered hair, close to your neck. Using that forefinger and thumb, grab your hair (slide down your other hand, see slide 2), and pull your hair through the hole you created when you put your forefinger through (slide 3). It doesn't look like much now, but just you wait! Continue doing this all the way down your hair - just keep sticking your forefinger through a little lower each time. Ta da! That looks like a fishtail braid, there! Since my hair is thinner, sometimes I get a gap down the middle. I just slide a bobby pin or two into the middle, hiding it in my hair. Easy peasy.
Have fun! I'd love to see pictures if you try this out. And let me know if you have any questions!
