How to Make Decadent French Toast | That's Pretty Ace

Mmmm... French toast. Right up there with pancakes and waffles, French toast is a relatively easy breakfast treat. I personally enjoy making it with a few extra special ingredients added...

You will need:

  • 8 slices of thick sliced, day-old bread (l found an awesome loaf of challah bread at Central Market)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup half & half
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Here's what you do:

  1. Beat the eggs, then whisk in the sugar, vanilla, and half & half. Pour this mixture into a shallow glass dish (I usually use a 9x12 or 9x9 pan).
  2. Heat your pan to medium-low, and melt the butter onto it.
  3. Doing only as many as your pan will take at a time, take the bread slices and dip them in the egg mixture. I let them sit on one side while I count to 10, then flip and count to 10 again. Place in the warmed pan.
  4. Toast each side until golden brown. Serve right away or place in a pan in the oven on 200 to keep them warm.
  5. If you're feeling especially festive, use a heart-shaped cookie cutter ;)

Serving your French toast can be best part because of the toppings! There's so many fun options. Mix granulated sugar and ground cinnamon in a dish and sift on top; sliced strawberries and bananas with agave (which is what we did above!); powdered sugar and maple syrup; or smear on some Nutella. Mmm. Now that I think about it, two slices of French toast with Nutella and sliced strawberries in between with powdered sugar on top. Heavenly, right?

Going to go make that right now. Happy Thursday!
